HireValues isn't a personality test or any kind of psychological or skill-based assessment. It isn't really an assessment at all. It's intended to be about a 15-minute exercise as long as you don't over-think it. HireValues uses "Paired Comparison Analysis" which is a way of rank-ordering a lot of good things that can be subjective. There are no wrong answers; no trick questions, just a lot of comparisons you get to choose between... 190 of them! That's why you don't want to over-think it - it would take more time than it's worth. Simply choose the word from each pairing of words that better describes the ideal organization.
Keep in mind that as you do this, your goal isn't to describe yourself; your goal is to describe the ideal culture, vibe, or ethos of an organization. Don't get stuck between 2 terms you like or 2 terms you don't like. Just make a choice and move on. 1 out of 190 isn't going to change the results; 5 out of 190 won't either. You may feel like some of the comparisons are redundant. That's all part of the exercise.
When organizations know who they are, stay true to who they are, and are picky, they attract people who like the ways of the organization rather than just filling a job based only on skills, education, background, or perceived talent. Without shared values and shared priorities, alignment, engagement, and a common vision may be difficult. When we hire people who like the culture as it exists, we're less likely to hire someone who won't fit - or worse - who may try to change the very culture your team already enjoys.
Likewise, when individuals know who they are, stay true to who they are, and are picky, they pursue opportunities that they are aligned with - that they will thrive in - rather than just taking a job. Without shared values and shared priorities, satisfaction and motivation may be hard to come by. When we take jobs in organizations whose values are congruent with our own, we are less likely to feel like the proverbial square peg in a round hole.
That's the point of HireValues... it helps organizations and people be clear about what really matters in terms of culture.
Let's get started!
